Testimonials

Hudson Montessori School | Scholarship Granting Organization

“I agree that it seems too good to be true, which is why I had my tax accountants look into it. It’s a straight deduction from our taxes and a donation that goes directly to HMS. It’s a no-brainer.”

— Children’s House Parent

“I thought contributing through the SGO would be confusing, but it was actually really simple. Mr. Virgil’s step-by-step video was incredibly helpful.”

— Lower Elementary Parent

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is an SGO?

SGO stands for Scholarship Granting Organization. In 2021, the Ohio legislature established a tax credit allowing Ohio taxpayers to contribute up to $750 per individual / $1,500 per couple to non-profit organizations like Hudson Montessori School (Section 5747.73). This provides a dollar-for-dollar reduction in Ohio income tax liability.
+ How do I contribute to SGO @ HMS?

You can contribute to the SGO @ HMS using an online portal administered by OAIS (Ohio Association of Independent Schools) via credit card or ACH. As a member of OAIS, Hudson Montessori School uses this portal to receive SGO funding.

You may also mail a check to OAIS. You can find the hard copy form in the Get Started section of this SGO page

+ Why should utilizing the SGO be important to you?

Redirecting your income taxes to the SGO @ HMS allows you to receive a tax credit rather than a standard tax deduction. Taxpayers can reduce their Ohio income tax liability up to $750 (individual) or $1,500 (jointly). This can be a great tool to use when preparing your taxes.
+ How will HMS use funds from the SGO @ HMS?

Per Ohio legislation, contributions to the SGO @ HMS are prioritized for students and families demonstrating financial need. This will allow HMS to continue its mission of providing a Montessori education to more students.
+ Should you contribute to both the SGO @ HMS and the Hudson Montessori Fund?

We encourage everyone to participate in our annual fund. SGO @ HMS allows our constituents to redirect their Ohio income taxes to HMS by taking advantage of this tax filing benefit.
+ When do you need to make the contribution?

You must make the full contribution (a maximum of $750 per individual / $1,500 per couple) prior to filing your 2025 taxes up until the deadline of April 14, 2026.
+ Who can participate in the SGO @ HMS?

Anyone who resides and files taxes within the state of Ohio. Citizens of other states are unable to participate in the SGO @ HMS.
+ Do other private schools participate in this program?

Private and independent schools across the state of Ohio participate in the SGO program. Just in our area that includes Old Trail School, Seton Catholic School, Walsh Jesuit High School and Western Reserve Academy.
+ Does this SGO take money away from public schools?

No, the funds from the SGO come from the state’s General Fund. Public School funding is not financed through the state’s General Fund.
+ Can grandparents and alumni participate in this?

Yes, any person who pays taxes to the State of Ohio is eligible to participate in the SGO.
+ Help us build upon last year’s success!

32% of our HMS families contributed last year to the SGO, which helped provide (insert number here) towards financial aid for HMS families. This year, our goal is to achieve at least 50% family participation.
