BIOGRAPHY
Paula began her library career as a teenager shelving books at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, advancing to clerk and reference assistant as she worked her way through college.
She was awarded an HEA-Title IIB fellowship to study youth services librarianship at the University of Pittsburgh. After earning a Master’s in Library Science, Paula worked for more than five years as a youth services librarian and coordinator for the Cuyahoga County Public Library. For the past 20+ years, she has worked part-time at the John D. Ong Library at Western Reserve Academy. Prior to joining the library at HMS in 2023, Paula worked for the Hudson City Schools at the East Woods Intermediate School library for 6 years. She was a distinguished staff award recipient in 2023. She is most grateful to have been a Take a Second Make a Difference community award winner in 2021, because she was nominated by a group of fifth-grade students.
Paula and her husband, John, live in the lovingly restored 1860 Sylvester and Julia Baldwin house on Aurora Street in Hudson. Their son, Peter, 23, lives and works in Los Angeles, and their daughter, Claire, 19, is a sophomore at Denison University.
When not at HMS, Paula can be found reading on her back porch, playing with her tortoiseshell cats (Nina and Piper), hiking and biking in the Cuyahoga Valley, gardening, cooking and practicing yoga.
Paula is so excited to be a part of the HMS community of enthusiastic, engaged and curious readers! She is committed to building a library collection of books that offers both windows and mirrors for students. She is a strong believer in experiential learning and intellectual freedom.
