BIOGRAPHY
Doña Laurie leads our Spanish program and Computational Thinking & Computer Science Lab. She designs innovative lessons that challenge students to use Spanish in authentic, real-world scenarios. In the Computational Thinking Lab, she engages students in both screen-free and digital collaborative activities, helping them develop foundational skills in computer science, ethical AI use, and digital citizenship. She has been a part of the HMS community since 1997.
An accomplished grant recipient, she has been awarded five Ohio STEM Learning Network Grants, and full scholarships at Kent State University, Akron University, Malone University, and Cleveland State for graduate work and teacher preparation programs. Many of these awards include materials such as robots and a 3D printer to enrich student experiences in her classroom. Her broader contributions include volunteering with the Ohio Educational Technology Conference and serving as a consultant to The Greenspring Montessori School and Training Facility to mentor Spanish dual-immersion faculty.
Beyond the school day, her after-school coding clubs provide a creative space for aspiring programmers to build on interests and affinities, and her cultural clubs expand student appreciation of Hispanic and Spanish traditions. Outside of Hudson Montessori School, she works as a Spanish Examiner for the International Baccalaureate, enjoys a good book while traveling to remote locations in Latin America and visiting family in Spain, and attending an occasional alumni sporting event, play or musical performance.
